Taking research by Warren J. Keegan as founding inspiration, this paper argues that regional market orientation is seen by marketers as antonymic to an international market orientation. Then, in using the identified relationship between globalisation and new regionalism as foundation, we propose that local orientation should today be seen as contiguous to and thus complimentary with international market orientation. We further propose that the current focus on opportunities for competitive enhancement offered at the regional level may demonstrate a significant form of myopia in current UK marketing thinking and practice.

[...] while the Bloc and the PQ were pleased with former Liberal Prime Minister Jean Chrétien's decision to forgo a role in the American-led Iraq war, Alberta's Premier Ralph Klein sent a personal letter to George W. Bush congratulating him for his "exemplary leadership" and linked Iraq to the threat posed by international terrorism (Alberts 2003; Robitaille 2003a). If regionally differentiated reactions to war casualties constitute the main feature of the regional cleavages discussed, then there is sufficient room to manoeuvre for the Canadian government to develop a legitimate international security policy in the eyes of a majority of Canadians in every region of the country.
