I pray this will make all "social" drinkers stop and consider what innocent "unwinding" with alcohol can lead to. Like his brother says, [Tim Fraser]'s alleged attack on the taxi driver was completely out of character for his brother and everything that followed was fuelled by alcohol. No one drinking alcohol ever intentionally ended up having too much. It's the nature of the "beast", unfortunately, the subtle demon that dulls the senses and leads to irrational behaviour. Tragic indeed! My heart goes out to the grieving family. May God comfort them.
The smearing of Crocus shareholders by others, such as [Boyd Barber], amounts to nothing less than blaming the victim of a crime for having been victimized. This isn't a case of people making "bad decisions", Mr. Barber. It's a case of frau...

I spent a lifetime Monday morning trying to reserve. Manitoba's "immensely popular", "award-winning park reservation system" opened at 7:30 a.m. So I am told. When I logged in at 7:30 and again at 7:32 and 7:34 and repeatedly until just after 8 a.m., I was met by a notice that said the site was being prepared for the opening of reservations and I should try again at 7:30 a.m.
Each time I got kicked out, I'd have to restart at "make a reservation", which required looking, again, at the main page that carried Conservation Minister Stan Struthers' message, extolling the new system's virtues.
Frequently getting to the "book now" stage or, past that, to the "proceed to book" stage meant being stopped dead by notices that "this page cannot be displayed," "this service is unavailable" or "an ...

Record revenues and passenger traffic didn't prevent second-quarter profits at WestJet Airlines from being cut almost in half as the discount carrier took a $31.9-million writedown after scrapping its troubled reservation system.
OTTAWA -- Profits in Canada's oil patch will plummet by almost 25 per cent this year from last year's record haul, although Canadians will keep paying record high prices at the gas pumps for years to come, says a new report by the Conference Board of Canada.

The reservation system will also allow WestJet to sign so-called interlining deals with international carriers, where the carrier would leverage its vast domestic network to shuttle inbound passengers on other airlines across Canada. Cathay Pacific Airways, British Airways and others have already expressed some interest in doing so, and WestJet hopes to sign up one or two new partners in the first half of this year. Analysts have estimated this could add up to $500 million to WestJet's top line in the years ahead.

This is an issue of Arctic sovereignty," said [Mike Spence]. "Sometimes waving the flag isn't enough. It's an investment we need.
The Turkish sailors, Erkan Yilmaz and Serdar Demirci, served aboard a cargo ship docked in Churchill to take on a shipment of wheat. They were detained by RCMP last Tuesday thanks to an alert ticket agent working in Churchill's Via train station who noticed a note on her computerized reservation system saying they were from Turkey. Earlier, the town's only border agent had asked Via staff to be on the alert for Turkish sailors.

Protegra, which has revamped Manitoba's campsite reservation system, finished first among 140 Canadian employers with 50 to 399 permanent employees who participated in a study by Queen's University's Centre for Business Venturing.
Everybody is pretty happy," said Protegra CEO Wadood Ibrahim in describing his workplace's reaction to the award Wednesday. "We're very excited, very honoured about it.
Einar Westerlund, director of project development at Queen's Centre for Business Venturing, said top employers "demonstrate superiority in employee recognition, managing performance, career opportunities and organizational reputation."

A made-in-Manitoba solution to the on-line reservation woes that plagued local campers two years ago has been chosen as the best project of 2006 by the Manitoba chapter of the Project Management Institute.
Protegra Inc. recruited four other local firms to work on the project, designed to provide local campers with a more flexible and convenient computer-based booking service. The new system enables campers to reserve provincial park campsites over the Internet, campground attendants to assist campers with reservations, and call centre employees to take reservations. It also functions as an administrative and management tool for Manitoba Park's head office staff.
[Sandra Visentin] and Manitoba Chapter president Lorna Weir said PMI officials were pleased to see such a diversity of project...
