I believe that Tom Freda has made an error in judgment by saying that the Victoria Cross should be changed. Freda has an obvious political agenda and is using the VC issue in a political manner. If he wants to change our political system, he should just out and say it instead of hiding behind weak arguments on a legitimate symbol of our current head of state.

[Mary Skanderbeg] says that using Bibles in polling stations is a traditional practice in the province. I'm guessing that it goes back to a time when most everyone in Manitoba was a Christian, and placing it on the table was a way of reminding people to be honest when voting. But that doesn't make much sense in today's increasingly secular and multi-faith society.
It's an example of a fading civil religion," says [John Stackhouse], adding that "it's at least one generation out of date.
He goes on to say that using a Bible in this way is "offensive" both to those who don't revere it as religious symbol, and to Christians who don't want to see the Bible reduced an "artifact of the state, like a beaver or maple leaf."

Intercultural communicative competence has been widely accepted as the aim of EFL teaching. In order to obtain this competence, Culture teaching must be implemented in the college English teaching. Textbooks have played a very important role in the course of teaching and learning. Textbooks introduce students the cultures of different countries and regions, thus making it convenient for students to exert a relatively remarkable influence on the fostering of students' cultural awareness and competence of intercultural communication. This paper focuses on the content analysis of the cultural content in College English (New) (henceforth, CE (New)).
