Intercultural communicative competence has been widely accepted as the aim of EFL teaching. In order to obtain this competence, Culture teaching must be implemented in the college English teaching. Textbooks have played a very important role in the course of teaching and learning. Textbooks introduce students the cultures of different countries and regions, thus making it convenient for students to exert a relatively remarkable influence on the fostering of students' cultural awareness and competence of intercultural communication. This paper focuses on the content analysis of the cultural content in College English (New) (henceforth, CE (New)).

Before turning to the stories of Ariette, [Anne-Marie] and [Claudette], it is helpful to put into context the teaching of French in elementary schools in Ontario. Ontario has the largest Francophone population of all the Canadian provinces outside Quebec, although only about 5% of Ontario students are Francophones. The Ontario Francophone population tends to cluster along the border with Quebec, across the central northern area of the province, and in a few pockets in the South West around Windsor, Midland, Welland and St. Catharines. Since 1910, there has been an association, L'association canadienne-française de l'Ontario (ACFO) dedicated to the promotion of French language interests in Ontario. A major concern has been to secure the right of Francophone Ontarians to receive their edu...

Until the 1990s, school libraries were a low priority in the South Korean educational system. But the Korean government has now developed a five-year master plan for improving school libraries. Similarly, the government has undertaken significant educational reform in order to cultivate creative human resources through open education and lifelong learning. The implementations of these educational reforms are based on information and communication technology (ICT) in education and the seventh educational curriculum. In addition to these policies, the activity of NGOs has been effective in developing school libraries. Today, South Korea has a modern, well-developed school library system.

This article is an introduction to some of the most popular Web 2.0 learning tools for teachers and teacher librarians. The authors supplement their discussion of social software by describing the major tools of Web 2.0 and by illustrating how they are being applied in various school settings. Most importantly, the authors (both academic librarians) believe that social software is critical to learning in the digital age, and cite several major educators in this area to bolster their perspectives. A number of these emerging tools impact "teaching, learning and creative expression within learning-focused organizations" (Horizon Report, 2008) and encourage collaboration, knowledge-building and collective intelligence ('wisdom of the crowds'). In promoting Web 2.0, we argue that teacher lib...
