MTS is going to start offering its television broadcast service in Portage la Prairie and will use that community to test a more advanced package of offerings it intends to roll out to Winnipeg subscribers some time next year. [Kelvin Shepherd] acknowledged other digital television service providers currently have a larger selection of HD channels (MTS now has nine) and allow for PVR integration. Our television service is still growing in Winnipeg where we have about 80,000 customers already, which we believe is about one-third of the market," Shepherd said. "This is an investment in new service technology in a competitive market.
Gifford, 54, who left Regis Philbin and Live in 2000, joked that the timing of her TV return "couldn't be worse" in certain ways: "I'm eight years older, 10 pounds heavier, a half-inch shorter, and just in time for HD television.
They have a high-def-ready set, but they haven't hooked up to high-def," he said. "And that really is impeding the process (of marketing HDTV)... because people think they're getting high-definition television, and they're not, and those people are going out and saying, 'You know, there's no big deal.' An onscreen message sent to Shaw Digital customers this week stated that the channel reconfiguration is related to the introduction of new high-definition services that will be located on channels in the low-200s range. The company is also running newspaper ads indicating that "to bring our customers new HD channels, new Canadian Timeshift channels and new specialty digital channels, our old channel lineup has been modified." The ads also say that Shaw's new channel lineup will be unveil...

Don't be too quick to blame the host's hockey fans. Ticket prices for a 21-game package ranged from $758 to $1,178. An upper-deck single seat to the Canada-USA preliminary-round game cost $140. One thing you should know about Hockey Canada: It's not a charity. It's the New York Yankees of international hockey organizations. They have a product to sell and their Maple Leaf brand doesn't come cheap. Clearly, however, it was the hockey fans of Saskatchewan who paid the most dearly for what has become Hockey Canada's cash cow. It's too bad, too, because despite the enthusiasm shown by the locals, it's a shame to see a few thousand unsold seats at the 15,000-seat Credit Union Centre when the home team takes the ice.

The fact of the matter is that there's more good television happening these days than ever before, even if sometimes it's a bit harder to find in the ever-expanding channel universe. And today's TV review focuses on a series so spectacular, so dramatic, so well produced and stunningly photographed that it deserves mention among the best things television has ever had to offer. One moment, we're watching a chameleon's snake-like tongue ripping insects from tree branches from more than a metre away; the next we're following a terrified seal as it tries to escape a pod of killer whales in the open ocean. A glimpse of the blunt reality involved when a pack of cheetahs chases down an ostrich is followed by a fascinating passage in which capuchin monkeys use stone "hammers" to open up the pal...
