[Arthur Miller] can always be counted on for one great scene per play, and in A View from the Bridge it comes when [Catherine]'s two men literally square off, with [Eddie Carbone] teaching [Rodolpho] how to box. The latter is decked by a not-so-unintentional right, and everyone is floored by the way Eddie's warring impulses shockingly reveal themselves.
Jeff Madden's stuttering inarticulateness reveals Eddie's helplessness in analyzing the actions that lead to his self-destructive act of betrayal. It's an impressive performance that's enhanced by an added physicality created by the actor's 30-pound weight gain.
Gerhard Wiebe is a commendable [Alfieri], but his character is unnecessary, given the story's pre-ordained climax. It's annoying to be tipped off by his pronouncing, "We all love...

In Booky's world, the '30s are tough, but not too tough. The Thomsons get so far behind on their rent that they're tossed out into the street, but they find another place immediately and everything's fine again. They're flat broke, but every time they need a bit of money to splurge on something special, it seems to be there.
[Booky]'s an outsider, but not to the point of exclusion from the right social circles. She's a poor kid in tattered clothes who somehow makes friends with the richest kids at school. "You don't act like you're poor," new best pal G...
