In the Argentina-Ivory Coast match, Argentina's [Hernan Crespo] pounced on a loose ball in the 24th minute and scored from close range after the African team's defence failed to clear Juan Roman Riquelme's free kick.
Argentina's [Javier Saviola] doubled the lead in the 38th minute. He timed a run to beat the offside trap and collect Riquelme's pass before slipping the ball past goalkeeper Jean-Jacques Tizie.
When I started to be manager of Togo, I was promised that bonuses for the players would be cleared," [Otto Pfister] said. "That is still not the case, so I decided to quit immediately.

Taste Tester Notes: This is a nice twist on lemon chicken. When uncovering the chicken after the first 30 minutes, baste it with sauce and then check before the second baking time is up to make sure the breasts are not getting dry, and baste again if the chicken is not cooked (I used breasts and thighs and found they did not require the full baking time). I did not thicken the sauce further after baking, but spooned it over the chicken to soak down into a bed of rice. Ingredient note: Angostura bitters is a concentrated bitters made in Trinidad and Tobago, and is commonly used in various cocktails and to add flavour to certain recipes. It can be purchased in small 100 ml bottles. Though it is 45 per cent alcohol, it is not sold at MLCC, but some places I found that do carry it are Safew...

Both teams were assured of advancing to the second round before the kickoff. Their opponents would be determined after later matches pitting England versus Sweden and Trinidad and Tobago versus Paraguay. Germany, a three-time World Cup winner, will play Saturday in Munich, and Ecuador will play Sunday in Stuttgart.
[Bartosz Bosacki] tied the score in the 33rd off a corner kick by Maciej Zurawski. Costa Rica goalkeeper Jose Porras ran out in an attempt to punch the corner kick away, but he stumbled and the ball fell to Bosacki, who knocked it in the net.
Even a win wouldn't have helped Trinidad and Tobago because of Sweden's 2-2 tie with England.

The Harper government claims that it is keen to develop a strong policy towards Latin America. Yet it is a flawed approach, supporting US policy at a time when it is at its lowest point in decades, while ignoring both a clear leftward swing of elected Latin American governments in the last five years and the significant importance of Cuba in the region. This paper examines the Harper government's approach to Cuba. Following some general comments on the evolution of Canadian policy towards revolutionary Cuba, it examines some of the errors in the Harper approach, suggests an explanation for the approach employed, and makes suggestions about policies that Ottawa should consider to improve relations. In sports terms, Cuba "punches above its weight"-a fact which is known widely in Latin Ame...

BADEN-BADEN, Germany -- England striker Wayne Rooney was given the all-clear to rejoin his country's World Cup squad, FIFA's website reported yesterday, and he immediately flew back to the team's German headquarters.
England midfielder Frank Lampard said earlier yesterday that Rooney's return would be a lift. "A player of Wayne Rooney's quality would get into any team in the world.
Rooney is one of England's most inspirational players. England is hoping that even if he misses the Group B games against Paraguay on Saturday, Trinidad and Tobago on June 15 and Sweden on June 20, he'll be available for future rounds if the team qualifies.
