Other personality characteristics may promote healthy and proenvironmental behaviour. For example, conscientiousness is associated with health behaviours such as safer driving habits, better diet, and exercise (Booth-Kewley & Vickers, 1994). More conscientious, open, and future-thinking people report more proenvironmental attitudes and behaviour (Ebreo & Vining, 2001; Lindsay & Strathman, 1997; Nisbet, Zelenski, & Murphy, in press), and individual differences in connectedness to the environment predict ecological attitudes and behaviour (Mayer & Frantz, 2004; [Elizabeth K. L. Nisbet] et al., in press; see Armitage & Conner, 2000; Rosen, 2000, for health behaviour reviews; see Bamberg & Moser, 2007, for a review of environmental behaviour).

China has experienced pressing energy shortages in recent years, and Beijing has intensified its efforts to secure China's energy supply through both increased domestic production and external expansion. In this paper, I first analyze China's global quest for energy by looking at the correlation between China's economic growth and its energy security concerns. I then examine the implications of China's "go-out" strategy through two sets of case studies. I argue that China's global search for energy is primarily driven by its rapid economic growth, out of insecurity rather than a master plan to dominate the world, and that China's energy security issues have multiple implications beyond simple economic concerns. Finally, I recommend a forward-looking engagement policy to be adapted by Ca...

There's probably not a spot on P.E.I. where you'd be two miles from the nearest house," said Ron Ryder, spokesman with the province's Department of Environment, Energy and Forestry.
Dwindling landfill space led to Waste Watch, a system set up in 2006 where islanders' trash and compost are picked up on alternating weeks and recyclables once a month. It's provincewide and mandatory for residents and businesses, but it's not free. Islanders pay about $150 a year for the program, said Ryder. There are fines for non-compliance, but most people follow the rules after their non-sorted waste is left at the curb, he said.
