A little artificial sweetener can be sprinkled onto the fruit to give it a flavor that's comparable to conventional watermelons," said Erin Peabody, a spokesperson for the Agricultural Research Service.
Dr. [Christine Gerbstadt], a physician and registered dietician, said she encourages diabetic patients to eat melon and other fresh fruit, "as long as it's in controlled portions.
"Fresh fruit is not a particularly expensive fruit, in terms of raising blood sugar," she noted.

. It is time once again to clean the gutters. The easiest way to clean out the rain gutter's downspout is to start by directly spraying water into the downspout from the bottom end. This method usually forces away clogs in the gutter downspout. If this does not work you can direct the water from the hose into the downspout from the upper end to unclog the gutter downspout. If the gutter still does not clear, use a plumber's snake in the downspout to loosen and draw the debris out of the rain-gutter downspout.
. Nothing says summer like a gorgeous watermelon cavity filled with delicious fresh fruit. To begin, take a sharp knife and slice a small thin piece off the bottom of the watermelon (so that the finished basket sits flat on a plate). Next, take the tip of your knife or garnishi...

It's lovely to make your own frozen desserts in an ice cream maker. I find that it's best to make them and serve them right away rather than put them into the freezer because they go rock hard and just aren't the same. If you are making this kind of dessert for guests, have the sorbet ingredients prepared and chilled ahead of time. Plan for a break between dinner and dessert and prepare several fascinating topics of conversation while you freeze the dessert in the ice cream maker. I use a Donvier (which I think is the simplest ice cream maker. You churn the ingredients in a stainless steel cylinder, no salt required). Churning in a Donvier doesn't take too long, but if you stop for bit, keep an eye on it so your dessert doesn't turn into a solid block.

Homans blows greasy harp, slips and slides some fine dobro work and leads his hot-as-a-poker band, The Workers, through all kinds of scorchers. Homans' well runs deep and his life experiences -- including being a Vietnam vet -- make him one believable-sounding bluesman.

The test lunches began with a meal of chicken sandwiches accompanied by water, given as a control on the first day. On the second and third days, a liquid or a solid food sample accompanied the sandwiches. In one group, the sample was either high-protein milk or cheese (a nutritionally equivalent solid). In another, it was either high-carbohydrate watermelon or watermelon juice; in a third, it was either high-fat coconut or coconut milk.
The results: Compared with the sandwich-and-water control, subjects who ate solid test foods consumed fewer calories after their lunches, but subjects who drank their test foods ate more. This was true whether the sample calories came from sugary, fatty or protein-rich sources.
All three groups consumed the most total calories on days when a meal supple...

Certainly, there are some city streets, as is traditional, that are in pretty rough shape," said Manitoba Trucking Association general manger Bob Dolyniuk. "I know Dugald Road has been in just absolutely horrible shape.
"I was weaving and twisting all the way down and thinking 'When are city crews going to fix this?' because they can cause serious damage to a vehicle if hit too hard, of course," wrote reader Holly Walker in an email, after the Free Press requested stories of pothole woes.
Reader David A. Newman said one pothole on Munroe Avenue is getting worse. "This is not a pothole the size of a watermelon," he wrote. "It's the size of a fairly big kitchen table spanning most of the lane.

Most importantly, watermelon headgear performs a very important psychological function for the Saskatchewan fan. By restricting the fan's peripheral vision, the melon exoskeleton prevents the Roughrider devotee from noticing too much of his surroundings in Winnipeg -- and particularly the fact that people in Manitoba are simply far more attractive.
I would never stoop as low as former Bomber placekicker Troy Westwood and suggest there are abnormalities in the Saskatchewan gene pool. The ethnocultural differences between Manitoba and Saskatchewan are far too small.
the largely rural, decentralized nature of Saskatchewan places its young men and women at what I like to call a hipness disadvantage. While roughly seven out of 12 Manitobans live in and around relatively cosmopolitan Winnipeg...

When you can smell the mint, add a little sugar to sweeten and a splash of soda water to dissolve. Fill the glass with watermelon juice and garnish with more mint. You need less sugar in this drink than a regular mojito, thanks to the fruit juice.
To make a basil-cilantro [BASIL CAESAR], begin again by muddling -- mash some basil leaves with an ounce and a half of vodka and the juice of a wedge of lime. Add Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco to taste and a dash of kosher salt. Then fill with chilled Clamato juice and garnish with cilantro.
Omit the vodka if you want to remain sober. If you're you're a vegetarian, use tomato juice and skip the Worcestershire, as the sauce contains anchovies.
