The debate regarding Canadian training models continues today. Despite the disagreements, empirical research on the scientistpractitioner model in Canada is scant. Indeed, implementation of science training in clinical psychology programmes has not been systematically studied (Merlo, Collins, & Bernstein, 2008). The paucity of empirical research is made worse because student opinions on the matter have largely been unsolicited. Preliminary evidence suggests that American student opinions regarding the scientist-practitioner model vary widely, with some being staunch advocates and others describing it as a training anachronism ([Aspenson] et al., 1993). More recently, the Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology (CUDCP) - a nonprofit organisation whose purpose is to fur...

We delineated the extent to which various facets of information communications technology (ICT) are used and are perceived as useful by treasury managers, focusing on three indicators of financial department performance: cost savings, improvements in the quality of the information, and enhancements in the use of scenario simulations for decision making. Specifically, we examined the relationship between ICT use in cash management functions within financial departments, perceptions of the importance of cash management to treasury managers, and their perceptions of the usefulness of ICT to financial department performance. The theoretical and applied implications of these findings are discussed.

This study uses the Organizational Culture Profile of O'Reilly et al. (1991), as adapted by Windsor and Ashkanasy (1996), to describe the culture of Australian organizations, as perceived by financial controllers. The study also examines the relation between organizational culture and strategy, and whether culture varies between service and manufacturing industries. Our results generally corroborate Sarros et al. (2002), with outcome orientation and respect for people perceived as the most prominent characteristics of Australian organizations' culture, and innovation the least prominent. The consistency of results using a different managerial sample and a different measure of culture to Sarros et al. (2002) suggests robustness of the descriptions of Australian organizations' culture. The entrepreneur is regarded as crucial for a firm's international strategies and the central factor explaining a firm's international behaviour (Andersson, 2000). Research into the internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) has emphasized the role of entrepreneur-related elements that impact export performance, such as: strategy (Baird, Lyles, & Orris, 1994; Tyebjee, 1994); attitudes (Bijmolt & Zwart, 1994; Ogbuehi & Longfellow, 1994); commitment (Dhanaraj & Beamish, 2003); perceptions (Jaffe & Pasternak, 1994); orientations (Dichtl et al., 1984); the international experience of managers (Qian, 2002; Reuber & Fischer, 1997); as well as more integrative human capital elements (Andersson, 2000; Bilkey & Tesar, 1977; Cavusgil, 1993; Herrm...

This special Issue of the Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science hopes to achieve 3 interrelated goals. First, it defines what it means by a "healthy workplace," and it delineates the ways in which work is associated with mental health. Second, it reviews the individual, organizational, and societal costs of unhealthy work and workplaces, and, consequently, of poor mental and physical health. Finally, it provides a framework in terms of a healthy workplace model to help summarize this literature.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the perceived effectiveness of a performance-management process is associated with effective workplace behaviours in Russia and Poland as it typically is in Western countries, such as the US. The study considers the extent to which cultural dimensions, such as in-group collectivism, power distance, and performance orientation, moderate the relationship between performance management and employee behaviour. Using samples drawn primarily from adult education programs in the university setting, the study asked 99 US employees, 100 Polish employees, and 86 Russian employees to provide ratings of their firm's performance-management process while coworkers rated the trustworthy behaviour and energized take-action behaviour of these employees. ...
