Rapid changes in the information and technology landscape provide challenges that at times conflict with traditional notions of school libraries and their role in learning, literacy and living. They herald important opportunities for school librarians to rethink, re-imagine and recreate a dynamic learning environment for school libraries. This shifting information environment includes the publishing arena increasingly characterized by a movement away from a "hard copy paradigm" (Rowlands & Nicholas, 2008, p. 8), the growth of a pervasive, integrated information environment characterized by vast quantities of digital content, open choice, collaborative and participatory digital spaces, and the transition of the Web environments from consumption of information to creation of informati...

Although thousands of articles about information behavior have been published in recent years, little attention has been given to the paradoxes that emerge in terms of either the features of such behavior or the investigation of it through research. This article draws on a wide range of studies, many conducted by the author, to explore 10 particular paradoxes that are apparent in the information behavior of children and young people. Several indicate discrepancies between theory and practice, whereas others show that when some priorities are addressed, other areas of concern may suffer.

A prototype includes a report on a United Nations Security Council meeting on terrorism, a space shuttle update, a U2 music video tribute to Martin Luther King, a feature on the environment, a "fast fact" ('Arachibutyrophobia is the fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth') and two minutes of commercial advertising. [...] electronic media tends to erode language, flatten historical perspective, and sacrifice the private self (Birkerts, 1994). The report rejected assumptions that the "Google generation" is information literate in digital spaces, despite their apparent facility in this medium.\n This study models reflective practice as practitioners are empowered by the research process that helps them understand what works and how they can do it better next time.

More than a third of Canadian households now use LED (light emitting diode) lighting rather than the conventional incandescent bulbs, and municipalities across the country have developed programs to compost or recycle the large volume of trees, wrapping and packaging that comes with the season. To reduce the cost of the holidays and to show one's love in deed, rather than in dollars, many people now give homemade gifts or gifts of time and effort (babysitting, house cleaning, snow shovelling).

Amazon.com has been through several stages of development: first as a cyber-bookstore, then a cyber-market, and now an Application Service Provider (ASP). I apply the concept of "business ecosystem" to describe the evolution of Amazon.com, and highlight the role of web services in the shaping of its ecosystem. The company plays a central role in the ecosystem, working with a network of partners to bring products and services to customers. By continually trying to improve the health of its ecosystem, Amazon ensures its own survival and prosperity. The mechanisms through which Amazon has created its ecosystem are discussed and ideas for firms looking to create analogous business communities are advanced.
