The winners of the 2016 Influential Women of Northern Ontario Awards (IW) were announced May 30 and June 2 at North Bay's Best Western Hotel and Conference Centre and Thunder Bay's Victoria Inn Hotel and Convention Centre. Awards were present ed in the following categories: Executive of the Year, Entrepreneur and Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Business of the Year, Aboriginal Leadership, Tradeswoman of the Year and Influential Community Trailblazer. A $2,000 scholarship was also awarded to a student pursuing post-secondary education through the Influential Women Essay Scholarship competition.

The IW program was launched by Northern Ontario Business in 1997 in order to seek out, honour and profile women in Northern Ontario who contribute to the North's economic success and expansion: "We are so proud to be recognizing the achievements of exceptional women in the North" said IW founder Patricia Mills. "Year after year, we are honoured to witness the success and tenacity of women leaders who raise our economy and our spirits. We are looking forward to receiving 2017 submissions."

Over 160 influential women have been recognized since the program's inception. The roster of award winners continues to grow.
