"No one told us, we are not aware of that," said Farid Ahmed, 23, the eldest son of Nasrat [Nasrat Ali Hassan], through an interpreter.

"Our father was innocent and he was killed. He left a wife and children behind and a lot of memories. It is my request for Canadians to please do something for us. We can't survive easily."

"In accordance with local custom, we also offered a sheep to the family of the deceased to express sincere regrets,"' said a March 20 briefing note prepared for the defence minister.
