It is also building out coverage of its high-speed wireless data network (EVDO), which was launched last year in Winnipeg and Brandon, to 33 communities in 2007. This will enable customers, most of whom already live in an area with wireless coverage, with an EVDO-enabled device to receive data up to five times faster than on MTS's regular digital network.

"It's great for connecting back to the office on your Blackberry or laptop. You can get streaming audio or streaming video," Kelvin Shepherd, president of consumer markets, said in an interview Wednesday.

They include Gimli, Winnipeg Beach, Grand Beach, Victoria Beach, Belair, Pine Falls, Lac du Bonnet, Falcon Lake, Portage la Prairie, Neepawa, Dauphin, Selkirk, Morden, Winkler, Ste. Adolphe, Ste. Anne, Thompson, Flin Flon and The Pas.
