24. a) Castor Canadensis is our beloved beaver. It's not only Canada's largest (and cutest?) rodent, the beaver has had a huge impact on our history. Lontra Canadensis (also known as Lutra Canadensis) is the northern river otter. In Canada it is scarce, except in B.C. Ovis Canadensis is the mountain sheep, also limited mostly to B.C. And Lynx Canadensis is, well, a lynx. Once found throughout Canada, Lynx Canadensis has now been eliminated from settled areas in the south.

30. a) Gladys Smith, born in Toronto in 1892, became a film superstar as Mary Pickford. Known as America's Sweetheart, Pickford won the 1929 Best Actress award for her role in Coquette. In 1999, Pickford (who died in 1979) was honoured with a star on Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto.
