Appeal Court Judge Asked for Shift to Queen's Bench

Summary


Chief Justice Richard Scott, who heads the Manitoba Court of Appeal, and Chief Justice Marc Monnin, of Manitoba's Court of Queen's Bench, say [Glenn Joyal] asked to be shifted to the Court of Queen's Bench just three months after landing on the Court of Appeal.

Despite repeated requests from the Free Press to explain the move, [Rob Nicholson]'s office refused to shed light on the reasons for Joyal's reassignment. Joyal's office also did not comment.

According to Scott and Monnin's letter, Joyal had wanted for some time to return to the trial division and the opening of a vacancy at Queen's Bench as of July 10 provided "the opportunity Joyal desired."
