The former Liberal leadership candidate and Ontario premier has worked in the world's war zones, including Iraq, Sudan and Sri Lanka, and he doesn't hide his disdain for the international credentials of the Conservative government.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities' big city mayors caucus met on Thursday in Ottawa behind closed doors, and afterwards the group's chair, Regina Mayor Pat Fiacco, said members will be watching next week's throne speech closely for signs of help.
