IT'S bizarre to think a single McDonald's franchise is all that's standing in the way between Winnipeg and the return of pedestrians to Portage and Main.

"This is the famous Portage and Main?" they typically ask. "So why can't I actually cross?"

Of course, that won't be necessary if Oxford actually sells the mall and the Trizec Building. But it wouldn't happen anyway, as [Sam Katz] does not support the Portage and Main plan.
