[Nic Cage] seems at a loss as [Johnny Blaze], the comic-book character who gives his soul to save his sick father and is doomed to spend his days as a motorcycle stunt rider and his nights as the devil's bounty hunter, rounding up rogue demons. Having failed utterly in his attempt to play a normal guy in Wicker Man, Cage is back to his weird tricks, except that things that once seemed crazy and unpredictable now seems mannered and desperate. In a calculated bid for adorable neurotic quirkiness, Johnny eats jellybeans from a martini glass and listens to The Carpenters. Sometimes he talks like Elvis.
