It won't be the last that Manitobans will see of the national men's volleyball team in this week's Pan American Cup, but it's certain to be some time before they're back.
"The host city has host team grant opportunities and it is cost-saving because we don't have to fly the team out to another province, we don't have to accommodate the Canadian team in a hotel or pay as much in meal costs if the players are located in their host city," he said. "These are all factors when we look at where events are going to be held. By no means does that mean that Winnipeg will never host another men's event in the future, but I would say it would be a lot more difficult decision for Volleyball Canada to hold a men's event here as opposed to in Gatineau.""A big part of it is attendance," [John Blacher] said. "Over the years, the local volleyball and sports community maybe have gotten a little complacent, we'll see them next time, but when you go to another area where they haven't held a national team match in many years, we get better attendance."Boys Won't Be Back in Town for Awhile
