Summary
Sitting here in the high-rise on the weekend looking out at the wet, grey blanket hanging over the city, it was hard to get into the spring swing of things. Saturday's snow and Sunday's 60-kilometre winds whistling through the patio doors didn't help get this gardener's green thumbs twitching, either.
"It's always a bit of a challenge with the space," admitted [Denise Fortier]. "We never know what plants we are going to have to show."She showed me a couple of special displays worth mentioning. Best in Show was awarded to Kevin Duerksen for his large Coelogyne flaccida, a neglected specimen he acquired last year and coaxed into producing hundreds of blooms. Joyce Jaworski was awarded a HCC (Highly Commended Certificate) for her fine Phal "Mile High Magic." The award permits her to choose a name for the orchid, which she did. It's called Connor, after her grandson. I was also smitten with the Heshka's Epidendrum cochleatum, a species epiphyte orchid native to Africa.See the full content of this document
