Manitoba approached the Government of Canada in the fall of 2006 on an urgent basis, seeking new funding to avoid delays in the floodway construction. The federal government responded and gave Manitoba access to new infrastructure funding ahead of Budget 2007. As Budget 2007 announced, CSIF was not replenished, and was replaced by the government's new infrastructure program, Building Canada.
