Summary


Across the country, Felipe Alou was getting ready to leave, too. Today's fans know him better as the father of Moises, but Alou was one of three brothers -- Felipe, Matty and Jesus -- who all played in the majors. Alou had a steady 17-year career and another 14 as a manager, the last four with a job no one his age should have -- coddling [Barry Bonds] in San Francisco.

Almost unnoticed in the clamour over the work Oakland GM Billy Beane does is what GM Terry Ryan and manager Ron Gardenhire did in Minnesota. The Twins came back from 12 games behind and join the A's as two of the hottest teams in baseball heading into the postseason.

* A circus in San Francisco. Major League Baseball got off the hook when Bonds hit the home run tying Babe Ruth in nearby Oakland, and eventually fans across the league grew weary of booing him. Meanwhile, Bonds began clubbing home runs again and talking about playing another season to break Hank Aaron's record. Bonds has plenty of time to think about it in the off-season, which the personal trainer he let hang out to dry in the steroids scandal will likely be spending in prison. Wonder if Bonds has visiting privileges?
