The Godfather movies (the first released circa [George Carlin]'s Seven Words in 1972) do not seem outdated to me three decades later because Michael Corleone doesn't swear like Tony Soprano.

I can't recall the last time I tuned in to NBC's Saturday Night Live. But I just may do so tonight, when the network replays the show's very first episode, in 1975, which Carlin hosted.

Carlin was the heir to shock comic Lenny Bruce, and virtually all the SNL's original members, especially Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, carried the torch forward.
