Another WSO highlight is a presentation of Gustav Holst's thrilling orchestral showpiece, The Planets. Seven planets are represented, each more exciting than the last, and strangely enough, Earth is not one of them. You'll likely recognize more of this music than you expect, as movements have been heard in several films and even commercials. The Prairie Voices Women's Chorus will provide the mystic and wordless singing in Neptune. The WSO offers two performances of The Planets: Oct. 30 as part of the Musically Speaking Series, complete with animated visuals of the solar system, and Nov. 1 as part of the Masterworks show, with the addition of a world premiere of composer-in-residence Vincent Ho's work Red Zen and John Corigliano's well-known Chaconne from The Red Violin. Tickets range from $15 to $61. Call the box office at 949-3999.
