The provincial government wants to make Winnipeg an inland port for goods traveling to North America from export-heavy markets in Asia. That plan includes hopes to turn the Port of Churchill into a larger scale terminal, and bring goods through Winnipeg destined for midwestern and eastern U.S. states.

PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE - Manitoba's plan to be a bigger inland trade hub got a $50-million boost Tuesday with a federal-provincial project to eliminate a traffic light on the Trans-Canada Highway just west of Portage la Prairie.
