I recall attending a performance of the opera Carmen, delighted I had been given a fine orchestra-seat. As I settled in, two gentlemen sat down behind me and commenced chatting. It became obvious they were very knowledgeable about opera, relating juicy stories of performances attended across North America. I shamelessly eavesdropped.
