Last week, at the Brandon Festival of the Arts' dance segment, I saw groups of young girls in various stages of deshabille, gyrating very suggestively and strutting their stuff on stage in an alarming display of unwitting wantonness. Do girls not have more to say than: "Look at me in a sexy outfit?" These young dancers trust and look to the adults in their lives to set a good example, to help them make sense of life and all its demands, to protect them and to establish that as women, they will be taken seriously as much for their thoughts as for their looks.
