The Harper government says it is "premature and speculative" to consider bringing home accused Canadian terrorist Omar Khadr from the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, despite growing calls for Prime Minister Stephen Harper to intervene.

"I think this House knows the allegations against Mr. Khadr are very serious," International Trade Minister David Emerson told the House of Commons on Thursday. "The question of accepting a repatriation of Mr. Khadr is premature and it is speculative at this time."
