Councillors before me have attempted to bring in term limits, namely Gary Filmon, Chris Lorenc, Peter de Smedt and Russ Wyatt. Many individuals and associations have attempted to convince Winnipeg city councillors to adopt term limits. The Winnipeg Free Press has long advocated for term limits and positive endorsement has been offered by the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce and also CUPE National President Paul Moist, who publicly questioned that if one is not able to complete a contribution to civic affairs in six, eight or 10 years, how will it happen in 16, 18 or 20 years?
