Court Turfs Fletcher Case

Summary

Manitoba MP Steven Fletcher lost his latest bid to take his fight with Manitoba Public Insurance to the Supreme Court -- but he said he won't give up the battle.

The high court dismissed Fletcher's leave to appeal on Thursday but as usual, gave no reason for the decision. Fletcher said he was not surprised.

Fletcher, a quadriplegic since a car accident in 1996, wanted the court to intervene in his quest to have MPI increase his monthly benefit for a 24-hour attendant and pay for his care while he is in Ottawa or traveling in his duties as an MP and cabinet minister.
