TUNNEL VISION: If you don't want to be digging in the dark, buy the $5 official festival program at Safeways, Liquor Marts, the MTC box office on Market Avenue or the Info Tent in Old Market Square. Once you get to your hideout, make a plan to see shows you can't see in jail. Talk to fellow escapees. Read the daily Free Press pullouts for advice on the best way to go straight to the best productions. Remember it's not a parole violation to eavesdrop on fellow fringers waiting in line.
PRISON STRIPES ARE A FASHION CRIME: To ensure you don't attract attention at the festival, change into light, comfortable clothing. An orange prison jumpsuit or accessories like a ball and chain will make you, and everyone around you, uncomfortable. Also grab a hat and pull it down over your head to protect it from the sun and nosy coppers. If you don't have a proper fan, your rap sheet or fringe program will serve you well.OVER THE WALL: Fringing is like choosing among escape plans. They all sound good but but you know many are dead ends. Just know it's not likely you're going to get where you want to go the first time, but if you keeping trying, chances are you'll find plenty of escapist entertainment.Cover / It's a Riot!
