Crusaders Conquer Hex, Claim Provincial High School Title

Summary

"This means a lot to everybody. Now that story's over," said St. Paul's head coach Andrew Harder. "We won four of the last five (city championships) now and came up short in the last provincials. We finally had the week off in between and so it means the world right now."

"It feels amazing to be in the category of the other two teams that have won it (both city and provincials in one season)," said Caners, referring to St. Paul's and River East. "I think we're just the third team to do that in 20 years, both cities and provincials. When we started the year, there was four tournaments we wanted to win, Brandon tournament, Tournament of Champions, the cities and provincials. So when we won the cities, we told each other we weren't done and we obviously meant it."

"Winkler kept it close. It was surreal. We walked into the room in the second intermission and it was 23-10 in shots on net and it was two-all," Harder said. "One of our mottos all year was 'no regrets.' I just told them there's 10 guys in there right now who are in Grade 12... and you can't lose a hockey game not giving it your all. It's one thing to lose and give it your all but we certainly weren't in the first two periods. But in the third, the guys just responded and rallied."
