Contrary to earlier news reports, [Aubrey Kehler] said the stolen truck was not being chased by police before the accident happened. Kehler said there are more patrol cars in the area as a result of the recent shooting incidents on nearby Magnus Avenue and it was one of those police cars that happened to be at the intersection when the truck hit the cyclist.
Kehler said it appears that the truck was only equipped with a manufacturer-installed ignition disabler. Ignition disabling devices installed by General Motors are not considered effective by Manitoba Public Insurance, which is now requiring all vehicles in Manitoba to have approved ignition disabling devices installed."Because they're youths they'll get a slap on the wrist and a couple of years and they'll do it again...my brother's life is gone...they should do hard time -- that's what they deserve," [Marilyn Lariviere] said.Cyclist's Kin Sickened by Death
