"It's disappointing that the government broke its election promise and didn't mention that in any of its six news releases on budget day," said Colin Craig, Manitoba director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.
In the 2007 budget, the one released just before Manitobans went to the polls, the Doer government laid out a five-year income tax-reduction plan. On page C4 of the budget -- a page dog-eared by policy and finance nerds -- every tax rate and every income threshold until 2011 is listed. Same thing in the 2008 budget. It's a helpful guide for quick reference of current and future tax cuts. That chart mysteriously disappeared from the 2009 budget released just last month, which had Canadian Taxpayers Federation Manitoba director Colin Craig wondering what's up?"They told us in the budget lock-up that it's no longer part of the plan," said Craig.
