Domestic Violence Project Wins Award

Summary


Manitoba Chief Judge Raymond Wyant said before this project domestic violence courts were "basically in gridlock."

"We had more cases coming in than we had going out of the system," he said. "Judges and court clerks and everyone involved in the justice system were going to court and pushing around paper with needless duplication and we felt unless we did something critical the whole system would fall apart."

"We know it makes a difference," said [Gary Doer]. "People are very vulnerable when they are in a situation with alleged violence taking place at domestic levels."
