Down On the Farm

Summary

The WTO is trying to wrap up negotiations before the end of July. Beyond that point, the Doha round could become a contentious issue in the U.S.'s mid-term elections. Another factor: The U.S.'s fast-track legislation with respect to Doha expires in mid-2007. Under fast-track legislation, the U.S. Congress can either approve or disapprove a proposal from U.S. President George W. Bush; it can't spend months picking it apart.
