Summary


The purpose of our AGM this year, outside of the usual financial and pension business and reflection on the past year's successes and failures, was to discuss and analyze the results from the polls issued by the player reps to the players as to which issues they feel are most important when it comes time to hash out the next CBA in tandem with the Canadian Football League.

As was brought up by the Edmonton player reps, Jason Tucker, former receiver for the Eskimos and now their receivers coach, was only the smallest of margins away from incurring some degree of paralysis when he broke his neck in a game last season against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Things the union populace were strongly opposed to included alterations to the existing grievance procedure whereby an independent arbitrator deliberates over disagreements between the CFL and the players union, and, naturally, extensions to the strictly enforced workday of four-and-a-half hours. The thinking here was, if the powers that be want something that closely resembles an NFL workday, then approximate NFL wages should be offered as well.
