Dramas Rack Up Gemini Nominations

Summary

The two series each earned more than a dozen nominations for this year's awards (Murdoch received 14 nominations, and Durham was close behind with 13), including competing nods in the best-drama-program category. Durham County stars Hugh Dillon and Justin Louis were both nominated for best actor in a continuing dramatic role, and Murdoch Mysteries co-stars Thomas Craig and Jonny Harris will compete for the best-supporting-actor trophy.

CBC Manitoba's general-strike documentary Bloody Saturday, produced by Andy Blicq, was nominated for best history documentary program, and an instalment of The CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival titled Bedrooms of the Nation produced a best-direction nod for Larysa Fenyn and best-host nomination for former SCTV star Andrea Martin.

Competing with Murdoch and Durham in the drama-series category are The Border, The Tudors and the critically acclaimed but cancelled CBC drama Intelligence. Contenders in the best-comedy bracket are CBC's This Hour Has 22 Minutes, CTV's Corner Gas and a quartet of cable-network entries -- Cock'd Gunns, Kenny vs. Spenny, Odd Job Jack and Rent-A-Goalie.
