Debby, the world's oldest polar bear, is unlikely to live to see her 42nd birthday, in December. When she dies, Winnipeg will be unable to replace her at the Assiniboine Park Zoo because the polar bear enclosure is older still and widely recognized now as inappropriate. A new, sprawling exhibit better suited to house one of nature's most majestic species should be a priority of the plans underway for the zoo.
