Summary
The library does have emergency preparedness plans, but they are not too encouraging because they relate to salvaging damage, rather than preventing it. For example, according to one plan, "parchment documents (damaged by water) are to be immediately removed to a drying area. Do not fold. Transport horizontally. Dry flat... Air dry only. Place between weighted blotters when reasonably dry." Other documents, such as maps, are to be frozen within 48 hours. All of this, the contingency plan notes, is to be carried out "by trained responders only."
