Summary
The woRandall King plan of the woRandall King group almost thinks too big, reaches too far. Its premise is that tackling crime and building a "safe, vibrant Winnipeg" is necessarily the work of many groups, organizations and various government departments of all levels, from social service organizations on the streets to the province's family services and housing departments. While that can be a long-term goal, the necessity of tackling crime and keeping young people off the opportunistic streets should not be delayed for the global vision. Indeed, the city's "committee for safety" has existed for nine years now. The police and the courts have been frustrated by the slow progress seen to date, for example, on reducing car theft. More recently, growing gun crime, with guns being found in younger hands, has become the new worry of citizens.
