U.S. ambassador David Wilkins tried to convince Canadians Thursday that new, wallet-sized passport cards unveiled this week in Washington will actually speed up crossing the border into the United States rather than grind traffic to a halt.
"The passport, you've still got to hold it and turn the page and look at it. With the chip, you hold it up in the car, it's up on the screen by the time you pull up and they've already checked the information," Wilkins told a luncheon meeting of the Toronto Board of Trade, touting the new technology proposed Tuesday.See the full content of this document
