Due to lack of staff, personal care homes in Killarney, Neepawa and Souris have stopped accepting patients, while Westman Personal Care Home in Virden was forced to close 25 per cent of its beds and transport residents to other communities. During last spring's campaign, the province promised to hire 700 more nurses to flesh out lean ranks in a health-care system stretched thin by funding cutbacks a decade ago.Manitoba is using some of the money for $2,000 signing bonuses for nurses who promise to work in specific areas for certain periods of time.
