Farming has been largely divided into commodities with representative groups routinely lobbying governments with conflicting messages - bolstering export access versus protecting domestic markets; the pursuit of cheap grain prices for more profitable livestock farming versus prices that make grain farmers profitable, or more regulation versus deregulation of marketing structures. Cattle organizations and some grain organizations say these sectors should be traded away at the World Trade Organization if it means better market access for the export-dependent commodities.
