A fast start to Thunder Bay shipping season.

As a new chapter begins on a new Great Lakes shipping season, grain volume through the Port of Thunder Bay appears to picking up where it left off from last year's frantic pace.

The port authority reported in April that grain elevators loaded more than 688,000 tonnes of grain onto domestic and salt water ships, 12 per cent greater than the ten-year average for the month. Thirty-three ships pulled into port last month.
