Who would have known that for the Penguins, it was only an omen of things to come. Because if Saturday night's Game 1 proved anything, it's that only one team lived up to the hype.

"It's going to happen," Penguins forward Maxime Talbot told reporters in the wake of the Wings' 4-0 victory. "This is called adversity. We are definitely going to make it a long series. The last three months of the season every time we had a bad game we definitely bounced back and that's what we plan on doing in Game 2."

So the bottom line is that the NHL has painfully and doggedly evolved into a league where it's most talented participants can thrive unimpeded, and can only be derailed by opposing players who are just as skilled. In other words, the only guys who can thwart [Crosby] and [Malkin] are Zetterberg and Datsyuk, for the most part.
