Summary

The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra's final Pops show, Forbidden Broadway, ended the year not with a bang, but as a mean-spirited whimper that seemed -- with a few exceptions -- to revel in its own nastiness. Friday night's cabaret-type show featured an undeniably talented quartet of actors/singers who performed satirical parodies of popular Broadway hits with all the bludgeoning charm of a train wreck.

There were a few exceptions, of course. [Nick Verina]'s sleazy depiction of Robert Goulet as a martini-pickled lounge lizard -- forgetting the words to Try to Remember -- actually was quite funny. And a furry feline crooning "remember when actors played humans" to Cats' Memory, before launching into I Enjoy Being a Cat was both cute and clever at the same time.
