Freelon Doubles Up As Teacher, Singer

Summary

The Nu Sounds Concert Series continues on May 27 at 8 p.m. at the Park Theatre and Movie Café, 698 Osborne St., with a quintet called All Winds. Jeff Preslaff has assembled some of Winnipeg's finest horn players in a band that features saxophones, trumpet and trombone but no rhythm section. The music was written specifically for the occasion by band members. Expect to hear plenty of colour, counterpoint and swing. The concert will feature saxophonists Ken Gold, Chuck McClelland, and Jon Stevens, trumpeter Richard Gillis and trombonist Preslaff.

[Nnenna Freelon] will also be performing two concerts on Sunday, May 27, as part of the Izzy Asper Jazz Performances series. There may only be a few tickets left (call 477-7510), but if you are a jazz fan don't fret, because there are a couple of other options for great performances on that same day.
