"I think it's always been a pretty well-run business, in an industry that that is often run by artistic people rather than business people," explained Rumor's owner Ross Rumberg. "It's being a combination of snake-oil salesmen and good promoters, and we've always tried to provide excellent value to our customers... We've always worked hard at maintaining the integrity of the show.

"(Comics) like Rumor's because it's a well-put-together room -- the fans are there to see comedy; it's policed really well; it's advertised well, so there's always a good crowd. But the fact it's in the basement still gives it that kind of gritty, typical comedy-club feel. And the headliners are treated like gold when they come in. Comedians will always keep going back to where they're treated the best."

"We have always put on our real show every night that we're open, with the exception of our once-a-month Monday-night open-mike night... The primary decision in booking comics is 'What makes the audience laugh?' The industry is full of very funny people doing very 'inside' material, which is not really aimed at the people who buy the tickets. As much as I like those comics, we can't afford to book them. We have to make our audience laugh."
